Celebrate Perpetually

There is an old management saying about catching people doing the right things and celebrating, rather than catching them doing something wrong and correcting them. It is hard work to do this day-in and day-out.

Shortly after the new year, I began formally dedicating a portion of my day to writing out an actual list of gratitudes and moments worth celebrating.

The practice is proving to be transformative and helps me not only recognize the amazing things around me, but it also helps make opportunity for more amazing to come my way!

Celebrate a win – no matter how small it might seem. Remember that big wins come at the end of a series of small wins. You can make bigger wins by methodically building bigger strings of small wins. Progress towards a win is a win. And if you can’t measure a win or progress, simply adjust the sensitivity of your metrics. Team wins are individual wins, as well as the other way around.

Celebrate a discovery. Sometimes the wins are hard to find. Sometimes they just go to other people (not even to your team, revenue stream, or friends). Other times we mess up (or feel like we are doing everything wrong) Each of these moments offers something to learn and discover that will directly propel your growth. These are absolutely worth recognition and cataloguing!

All it takes is 10-15 min each day, a pen, and a notebook. YES, writing by hand is more powerful than typing!

Level up your game by actually telling people when and why they make your list!
